BDA opened up there meeting on December
9, 2019 for an update with FEMA, Board position nominees, and more.
They gained $500 last month, but
paid out over $600 for utilities and miscellaneous. The ending balance
was $1,193.22.
The FEMA project has been approved
by the government, and now they are trying to expedite the process with
FEMA to get the project going. Governor Justice is making an effort to
speed up the funding. They expect the money before Christmas to open up
bidding for the Buffalo Creek project.
The RR bridge along the trail in
Dundon had a taxpayer funded upgrade for walking just a few years back.
It’s now being rehabbed again. There are 20 new bridge ties to go along
the state park. Still have old ties for anyone to grab both up on the Duck
end of the trail and now some pretty good ones stacked near that Dundon
RR bridge.
Pierson hauled sand and dumped it
behind the courthouse for the new river access point. The permits for the
work lasts just three years. They may have to renew the permit before they
get started. They likely won't be able to get started on the river access
point due to the sand being so wet, and being the wet season, it will be
a while.
Next, BDA president, Mitch DeBoard,
asked about nominations. Greg Fitzwater moved to leave elected positions
this as is. His reason, they don't need to change the chair during the
FEMA process. His motion was seconded. Mitch stated, "I'll stay until FEMA
is done, then I will resign."
BDA Boardster Josh Shamblin mentioned
during the meeting about meeting with Doug Arbogast about taking a more
regional approach on all the tourist attractions going on. Right now everybody
is segregated, but soon hope to be all working together.
The rail bikes will be moved to
the BDA building now that the rides have come to an end for the year. The
jitneys will remain on the tracks as FEMA and construction workers will
be here soon, and will need constant transport.
It was a very short meeting with everyone
gathering for their annual Christmas dinner.
Next meeting will be held January
13, 2020 at 6pm.
