Deliciously
Vivid Plans Projects
On Monday,
September 23rd, 2019, the new group gathered at the courthouse at 6 pm
with quit a bit of exciting news!
The meeting
started off with chair, Dwayne Cottrell, announcing they were able to complete
four murals instead of the two originally planned. Dwayne happily reported
the murals have been taken in by the community. Many have stopped by and
posed for pictures, and some made it to their Facebook page. “Little Goldie”
has been secretly hidden in all the murals, so be looking for her when
you visit. She will be placed in all murals still yet to come.
Vanessa
Dunnigan read off the treasurer report. After buying paint, feeding the
fire department, mums, and donations deposited, they have $2.068.75. So
far, $525 will be deducted for Deliciously Vivid T-Shirts.
Tabitha
Adkins resigned as secretary, and Cindy Mullins was voted in. No one had
any issues with the Bylaws, so next meeting, they will vote to keep what
they have without change.
They
will be meeting with the BDA about painting preferred artwork on their
building, as well as Clinton Nichols. So far, they haven’t set anything
with the BDA, but Clinton wants something rustic. Dwayne stated that with
his specific request, the board will handle the design, and anyone is welcomed
to volunteer to help paint.
A school
teacher attended stating she put Deliciously Vivid on an application for
rain-barrels at the school, and the system is to help improve communities.
She stated that it doesn’t hold them to anything, it was only for support.
Of course, they were all willing and happy with the idea. Their sole purpose
is to beautify the community.
Mike
Shamblin spoke up once again about putting a UV sealant over the murals.
All the murals so far are in the harsh morning sun, and will quickly diminish
the color of the murals. The board will be working with him on purchasing
a sealant, and hope to get sponsors due to the high cost of the sealant.
Dwayne
reported there were 36 bags of trash between the Pisgah Bridge and the
High School. Thankfully, it was all cleaned up before the Apple Festival.
Mark
your calendars for October 26! On top of a “Trunk or Treat,” they will
be purchased 200 pumpkins for young ones to paint, or draw on for cutouts
(first come first serve). You can pay a $5 entry fee to enter the pumpkins
into a contest of which the winner will gain 50% of the money collected.
There will only be a 1st place. For the older kids, get your science minds
ready, and find ways to prevent your pumpkin from breaking on a 25ft tall
drop. Entry fee is $5, and the winner will receive 50% of the money collected
as well.
There
will also be a scarecrow decorating contest, but unsure if they were going
to do the base of the power poles or the unused parking meters. All of
these activities will be held 12pm-3pm before “Trunk or Treat” at 6pm.
For the pumpkin drop and the scarecrow, all will be assembled on site,
no building your protected pumpkin at home and bringing it in. There will
be rules and guidelines posted soon. You can bring your own supplies for
the scarecrows, but there will be items on hand to use.
There
is also talk about a potential all day celebration starting at 8am, but
it is not set in stone.
The community
has spoken, and they will be taking in submissions for “wings.” So come
up with some beautifully hand drawn wings and be sure to submit them! Must
be black and white and no clip art. All submissions must be hand drawn
and original. More rules will be posted at a later date.
