8 Minutes of Little
County Commission Meets
Jan 9th 2023

Commissioners Joyce Johnson and David Schoolcraft

Left out in the cold, Commissioner Connie Kinder

County Clay's County Commission held an 8 minute meeting on Jan 9th at the Courthouse. 8 minutes is not a record but it's real close. The shortest as far as we can remember stands at 6 minutes.
Newbee Joyce Johnson was in place and by all appearances, sure looked like senior Commissioner Connie Kinder was off by herself, not in the loop.
During the Dec 27th gathering, an agenda item called for the hiring of Cheyenne Truman as requested by not quite in office Circuit Clerk Clarissa Hanshaw. Ousted Fran King questioned the law on a non sitting elected officials asking for a hire. When the dust settled, Ms Truman was hired.
For this meeting, the now on board Hanshaw asked for and received the thumbs up to hire long employee Jill O'Brien... to change her from part time to full time status at $13 per hour.
Oh, by the way, that Dec 27th hire, Cheyenne Truman, she quite after three days on the job. Gone
Something to remember down the road...
Agenda items 9 and 10 dealt with a new 911 tower and tower site for this County.
Now called the "Pisgah-Paxton" tower, the contract was agreed to by the CCC for $269,109.00
Also came approval for using a Mercer County spec sheet for our new tower.
Commissioner Kinder raised issues with the Mercer County specs. Sounded like she knew something wasn't quite right with the paperwork although she didn't spell it out to the public.
No matter what, Dave Schoolcraft had the Johnson votes for both agenda items
The leasing of that tower site from ex School Superintendent Joe Paxton ($25,000 up front) has been controversial since the git go.
For this meeting Bill Carr from out Harrison way raised his hand and asked the CCC about how to get considered for a tower site. Carr said he owns hill top property (1600' elevation) in the center of the county and it would be (have been) a great location for the good 911 service.
Commissioner Workman asked about the funding for the tower. About all we heard from Schoolcraft was, $25,000 was for a 99 year lease for Paxton.
8 minutes of public meeting all done.
