CCC Meeting
County Commission Meets
Jan 3 2023
As
required by State Law, the first day after the New Year
holiday, each County Commission in the State must convene a
public meeting where they organize themselves for another
year. That part about getting organized, well.... they try to
get their heads together as best they can
That mandatory gathering for Clayberry was held
Jan 3rd beginning at 10am sharp. The rules also require, the
only business allowed is selecting days and times for public
meeting in 2023 and selecting a Commission President, Prez, as
we call it.
For this year, things were different. Long time
Commissioner Fran King had been tossed from duty. In her place
was Ivydale's Joyce Johnson. So the new make up is senior
Commissioner Connie Kinder, 2 year on the job Commissioner
David Schoolcraft and of course newbee Joyce Johnson.
Several minutes before a CCC meeting,
Commissioners sit down on the leather chairs and assume the
posture of an elected official. IN other words, they get
ready.
Didn't happen this time. Instead Johnson and Kinder
were positioned in the peanut gallery talking. When
Schoolcraft entered the meeting room, all three moved to their
perches up front.
For many years, the Prez of the CCC has sat in
the center seat.
As the 10 am start time came closer, Kinder took that
center seat. Now for the politics that always works against
the citizens of Clay.
As predicted since the Primary Election in May 2022,
the plan called for Schoolcraft to run the Commission and
Johnson to be the second on each motion and the second Yes
vote, that Schoolcraft wants passed.
With the third Commissioner, Kinder, being left out in
the cold, the red headed step child so to speak, Kinder's vote
is not needed. The new dynamic duo has the quorum
Schoolcraft will get everything (no matter how
outlandish) he desires.
Up first was the election of the CCC Prez. Connie Kinder
explained that just mentioned above history and that she's the
senior Commissioner, she wanted elected in the slot.
Both Schoolcraft and Johnson were against that plan.
With Johnson at his side and Voting his way, David
Schoolcraft was elected Commission President.
Doing a wittle brain scanning, it was about then that
Ms Kinder must have been thinking, Oh Boy, I'm so screwed!
Then came the decision on dates and times for all
public CCC meetings. Currently, Commission meetings are held
the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month with the start time set
for 10am.
There was no problem with the 2nd and 4th Monday.
As for the start times, the inexperienced newbee, Joyce
Johnson, insisted on having the second meeting of each month
to commence at 5pm, after normal Courthouse hours.
Commissioner Kinder expressed strong resistance
to that 5pm part. She advanced: she has to attend other CCC
business like regional meetings and she doesn't want to miss
her work during regular CCC meetings. Hitching their
britches up with pride, even with protests by Kinder, the
second meeting of each month will start 5pm sharp in the
Courthouse.
What sounds like a good idea, the part about an
evening meeting so working people can attend and participate.
Wrong O, There's nothing new in County Clay.
When Harold Fields was Sheriff he started off with
Saturday hours for business
If memory serves us correctly, Linky Poo decided on
evening CCC meetings.
There was even a time when Commission meetings were
held on Saturdays.
Often govt officials have to come to Clayberry for a
meeting. Sometime signatures, sometimes to update the local
leaders.
In each case above , it was seen apparent to all, after
normal business hours meetings, don't work. Clayonians don't
care enough to attend a public meeting. Those Clayonians have
but one question, "Where's my check".
For the Commission, those late meetings would
require County Clerk office employees to work overtime and
that costs hard to find $$$. Those late evening
gathering eliminate those quicky tele calls to State
agencies for answers to questions. When other elected
officials or employees need to attend a CCC meeting, that is
also expensive and on overtime.
Chalk it up to absolute inexperience and the newbee
lady not asking around for answers before opening her mouth.
The meeting lasted a total of 11 minutes. If
there was any doubt, Connie Kinder now knows, she is the
person voted off the island.
Except except when it comes time to vote on
ANYTHING 911 Center related. Unless Johnson can get some kind
of Ethics Commission exemption letter that allows for her to
vote on family matters, then and only then will Ms Kinder have
a say on anything.
From Napoleon Bonaparte: Rascality has limits;
stupidity has not.

One final
note. There are thieves within the Clay County
Commission.
When the Ace Cub Reporter left this meeting to
sit in on Circuit Courtroom action, he forgot to pick up his
digital recorder from the top ledge of the front pew.
After realizing the loss, during a courtroom break,
back to the Commission room he went.
Nope, not where he left it. Yelp the three
Commissioners were still there as was Connie Workman. Upon
asking Connie Kinder if she had seen it, from Kinder, "Nope"
A couple hours later, the Mel Gibson Look Alike found
County Clerk Connie Workman and asked the same question. After
grinning, she responded with, "You will see it again."
We think there's a thief in the County Commission room.
We know what we'll be asking for during our next online
begging campaign. Maybe we'll ask for three recorders so each
Commissioner can have their own toy to play with instead of
doing Govt business.
