ONE BIG CLUSTER

Pretty Boy Paxton, L; Dave Mullins

Let's tell a story of dismal administrative leadership and total lack of regard to the students of County Clay.
With Corona running rampant and out of control, Clayberry schools, all of em, were closed earlier this week. They didn't tell us that the entire bricks and mortar system would be closed til after Thanksgiving break, but that was the plan all along.
Every Superintendent and Athletic Director in the state knew, anytime the entire system shuts down, that means, the county is considered "red" which disallows any sports and extracurricular  activities. Everything has to stop. EVERY Superintendent and AD in the state knew that long ago.
With all Clayberry schools shuttered, the Friday night, Nov 13th, football playoff game was canceled. That came Thursday evening, Nov 12th. That late cancellation came after the football team and coaches had been out on the field going thru drills, practice. Tickets for the football game had already been sold.
Friday afternoon, rumors spread that a parent had engaged an attorney and took a case to court. The rumors spouted, the parent wanted the playoff game played no matter!
Trying to find court injunctive relief documents at the Clay Courthouse was futile. Nothing was there, nothing had been filed on Clayberry. With Bluefield media outlets calling up here and trying to get the documents, that meant, no paperwork was filed down there
After three hours of study and putting 2 and 4 together and coming up with 7, here's what we've pieced together, as best we know.
Widen's Tim Casto has a son on the CHS football team. Mr Casto hired an attorney to seek relief and get the football game back on the schedule.
The West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Conference (SSAC) is based out of Wood County which is where the court action, judge action, took place.
The attorney told the SSAC, put the game back on schedule and by the way, Pretty Boy Paxton did know the school system closure and cancellation, you can't do it that way.
Under the scrutiny of a Judge, the SSAC said, hold it Judge, we're just following the W Va Board of Education directives, if all the schools in the county are shuttered, there can be NO sports events. The SSAC was passing the buck over to the State Sch Bd. They couldn't and wouldn't take the heat, not my circus, not my monkey comes to mind.
After hearing from the State Sch Bd, the Judge figured out a work around. That work around included: if Clayberry Schools announce that at least one school in the county would reopen on Monday, he would allow the play off game to proceed. If the parties follow that suggestion, no court decision would be needed.
With everybody off the hook and out of the public spotlight, the case would go no further and everybody would be happy happy happy.
So now, that play off game with Bluefield has been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2pm , at Bluefield.
   Here comes the biggest cluster.
Sara the Messenger put out this BS laden statement around 6:30, just before the kick off time of the original  game:    Due to the importance of social and emotional wellness for elementary aged students, and after consultation with the Clay County Health Department, Clay County Schools will open our elementary schools on Monday, November 16 to help meet the needs of our students.  In light of the Governor’s recent decision to suspend in-person learning after Thanksgiving Break on November 30th, December 1st and December 2nd, we feel that it would be beneficial to bring our elementary students in and prepare them for extended distance learning.   As a result, all Clay County elementary schools will be open on Monday, November 16th
More literally and more accurate, the statement should have read: Superintendent Pretty Boy Paxton doesn't give a shirt about the health and well being of the smallest of the students and in order to comply with the suggestions of the Wood County Judge, we're going to throw them out there for a day to catch the virus. No other students nor teachers have to come to work, just the babies, and who cares about them.
Get it, Paxton has turned grade school kids into canon fodder to save his own bacon.  Clay Elementary is eat up with the Corony bug. One parent told this newspaper, every kid in the 6th grade class (CMS) is already in quarantine.
Everybody else, high and middle school teachers, cooks, janitors, ... they all get to stay home out of harm's way.
From Theodore Roosevelt: Our first duty is to war against dishonesty... war against it in public life..... Corruption in every form is the arch enemy of the Republic, the enemy of free institutions, and even more dangerous than the open lawlessness of violence because it works in hidden and furtive fashion.
If you ever think you can trust this Superintendent and for that matter, our Sch Bd Chair, think again. Both are have no regard to health and future of the students and school employees in County Clay.
