Countdown Begins
Commission Meets
Nov 14 & 28

Commissioners King and Kinder

Lets see now. It's time to get caught up on County Commission doings.
On Nov 14th the CCC conducted a 23 minute meeting. From that short session we learned:
CCC OK'd hiring a second Badge for School System duty. That new grant, for the second officer began Oct 1st. One problem. There are no Badges around to be hired. From Top Badge Alan King, "The budget is not up to scale."
  Something else on police work.
Robert Belt is a retired Black Shirt that works part time NOT as a Badge but as a Court Bailiff.  For him to receive his retirement check each month, he can NOT work anywhere as a gun carrying officer of the law. He can only handle courtroom duties. When you hear him on the scanner and doing Badge duties, he ain't suppose to be!
Also from the Nov 14th gathering, the County Commission purchased new election equipment, $89,900.77. Here's the way the new stuff works. Instead of the voter marking a paper ballot, the ballot is slid into a new machine where the voter uses a touch screen to fill in the blanks. That ballot is taken to the Courthouse where all ballots are counted as usual. The new machines will NOT be connected to the internet in any way shape or form according to Dave Schoolcraft.
There will be one of those marking machines at each precinct. That $89,000, that's just part of the purchase paid for with a grant. Seems like a dumb new set up but that's what's comin our way.
In the way of citizen input...
One guy expressed outrage over getting the run around at the Courthouse (Assessor and Top Badge). had something to do with his horses, fences, and the problem having to do with the Assessor's family.
From way out Harrison way, Bill Carr asked the Commission to do something about lack of wawa service in his neighborhood. He said that area was in between PSD services and "We're in a black hole.."
Commissioner Fran King replied: with all the new COVID $$$, there might be something they could do now.
That's about it from the 14th.

Moving on to the Nov  28th meeting... More than a dozen citizens showed up for this adventure. Up front, Commissioner Dave Schoolcraft participated via the telephone.
There's going to be a Christmas Celebration on Dec 17th beginning around 5pm. The fun stuff includes the annual Christmas Parade on Main Street. The CCC gave the green light for the group to use the Courthouse for the seasonal event.
Discussion turned to those illusive election year Roger Hanshaw freebee grants. According to the Franster, the CCC application for the $$$ was turned down because the wrong form was used. Ms King said the application came directly from Hanshaw. Others seems peed big time over similar attempts and when attempts to reach Delegate Hanshaw, nope, no response.
Mayor Shamblin from the Town of Clay provided: they used some grant writer lady and so far, that grant request is still in the running. But, after questions from up front, the Town has not been given confirmation on their request.
Private citizen Bill Carr, that's the guy seeking wawa service out at Harrison, he too has sent a letter to Hanshaw without any response.
Bernie Howe has been working on a strategic plan for growth in Clayberry for a couple months. A couple weeks ago he presented a draft plan. For this meeting, Howe was back: there are a couple errors in that draft assessment and a revised plan is now available. He made public several of the highlights from the plan. King said she would talk to him after she reads the report. She has been off work due to surgery.
One of the best things at the Courthouse is when grade schoolers come by to decorate Christmas trees. For 2022, that date is Dec 9th.
Sick of your taxes? Think someone is getting a better deal? You getting stiffed without any Crisco. Once a year in February, you have a chance to plead your case before the County Commission and seek a reprieve. The dates for your appeal are:
Feb 1 10am
Feb 6 11 am
Feb 910am
Feb 13 10am
Feb 16th 10am
Around 10:34 , the dust had settled and everybody headed for the door. Out going Commissioner Fran King is down to two meetings before heading off to pasture.
