Candidate for Governor Stephen Smith Stops in Clay on “Not for Sale” Town Hall Tour
On March 15, candidate for Governor Stephen Smith returns to Clay County as a part of his fourth tour around the state.
Ahead in the polls, and in fundraising, Smith’s campaign believes that our state’s leaders ought to serve West Virginians in every county, including the counties and rural areas that are often ignored by other candidates.
The Smith campaign has called this Town Hall Tour, “Not for Sale,” a reference to Smith’s refusal to take corporate PAC money in a field of opponents familiar with lobbyists and out-of-state executives. “In more than 10,000 conversations with voters last summer, the thing we heard over and over again is that people are fed up with political corruption in this state,” says Smith.
Smith’s visit to Clay County will be from 6PM to 8PM at the Lion's Hall on Main street in Clay. It is open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
The Town Hall will include the story of West Virginia's economy, a chance for local residents to share what they want from a people’s government, and an opportunity for new volunteers to sign up to help.
“The only way that we get a government that works for all of us is if we take it,” says Smith. “We need 1,000 leaders, not 1 to win the state we deserve. That means we need you.”
Town Halls like these are also how the Smith campaign built their 32-part platform (viewable on their website at wvcantwait.com).
“The people who are closest to a
problem know best how to solve it. That’s the idea that this whole campaign
is based on,” Smith said. “In fact, it’s how we created our platform: through
more than 150 Town Halls just like the one March 15 in Clay.”
The public is invited to attend the Not for Sale Town Hall and share their vision for our state’s future.

Why the campaign is coming to our county: Stephen Smith and the WV Can’t Wait movement believe working people matter—that we matter in every county--and that no corporate lobbyists, PACs, or millionaires should be able to buy our elections. Smith has been to every county in WV at least twice. Already.
The WV Can’t Wait movement
envisions shifting political power away from out-of-state monopolies and
political cronies (from both parties) and to West Virginia communities,
working families, small businesses, farmers, and more. We envision a government
that chooses the side of people, not the wealthy and well-connected.
