Refinancing the School Board
March 8 2021

Phil Dobbins

   County Clay's Board of Edumacation convened a public meeting on  March 8th in the Pentagon on Gump street. With all five Boardsters on hand and a couple in the peanut gallery, the short session included;
   For this fiscal year the school system has brought in $1,460,127.57 which is $40K more than the same time last year.
  The elected body voted to give the County's only public library a $11,337.00 donation to help with operation expenses.
   JC Osborne and Eric Lovejoy are new volunteer CCHS baseball coach
   Brian Collins got the nod to be a volunteer boys' basketball coach at Clay Middle
   Jacob Allen and Holly Nine were hired as substitute teacher pending certification. Ms Nine is currently an AmeriCorp worker at Lizemore Elementary
  Kacie Minger was hired Asst Softball Coach for Clay Middle
  Miranda Salisbury is the new custodian at Clay Elem
  Josh Ferrebee was hired to be Asst Boys basketball coach at Clay Middle
  Alex Keiffer was employed as Asst Track Coach at Clay Middle
   Covid did you say?  Must not be any of that stuff in the Clayberry school system! Not one mention was made of the deadly virus or when school will go back to five days a week. Although not discussed, except the five day per week schedule to return around March 24th.
  Phil Dobbins heads up the very successful We The People civics club at Clay High which has several state championships under their belt.
  Due to COVID 19, this year's national contest will be done via a ZOOM meeting. To help with that expense, Dobbins asked for $100 advancement for the three day affair.
   Finally, the Pentagon is in debt $1.25 million (from an original $1.96m) and paying 4.75% in interest on the note. Suits were present during this meeting with a slam bam new deal to cut that interest rate down to 1.15% from Union Bank. The due date for the debt is in 2029.
  No vote during this meeting but expect a Yes vote next time around.
  Sadly, keep in mind this is the public's meeting... there was not a peep on the construction project over at Clay High nor a new gym being built behind the maintenance building beside the Pentagon.
   All the dust was settled by 6:30pm.  Next public meeting: March 22 6pm
