Clayberry Clean Up Day
April 23 2022
Every Spring,
State Officials provide a few dollars for each county to host
recycling, clean up efforts. For Clayberry, that amounts
to a once a year chance to get rid of those old washers,
driers, tires, hot water tanks and the like. Before each
event, locals set to work cleaning up stream banks, home properties,
and road sides.
Since the State took away our legal local dumps, this
is our only chance to legally dispose of junk and clean
up the county at the same time. Each year, tons upon tons of
discarded junk is hauled out of County Clay. Where all the old
tires come from, nobody knows.
For 2022, April 23rd was the designated date. In years
past, long lines of pick em up trucks pulling trailers waited
patiently at road side until it was their turn to dispose of
the stuff. Those lines would sometimes, stretch out for
a 1/4 mile or longer.
Something happened this year. There were no long
waiting lines.
We checked the place twice. Once at 9am and again
around noon, Poof!, no lines. People just backed up to the big
green trucks and unloaded. No wait.
