A Touch of Color

West Virginia communities that know the worth of tourism dollars know how important those little touches add to the niceness.  Stuff like period lighting, park benches, flower boxes, clean windows, litter control, and well painted facades come to mind first.
One of the first towns to invest in eye catching details was Marlinton in Pocahontas County. With their saw mills dwindling, Marlinton leadership put together a game plan to bring in fresh new $$$ via attractions like hiking, biking, camping, using State Parks, and more. Then came Snowshoe which added Winter adventures for the small spot in the road.
Today, high school kids got the afternoon off to plant color in each of the flower boxes along Main Street. True that won't make up for dingy windows, falling down buildings, used needles laying on sidewalks, and such but, it's a darn good start.
