For the most part, if a culprit is not
picked up in a day or two, he will never get picked up. That's
not always the case and here's an example of the latter. This
Blotter originated from a break in in the Spring of 2017. Eric
Justin Hamrick was picked up in June 2020 for the caper.
Edited and paraphrased a bunch, here's the criminal
complaint. Green Shirt FL Raynor was the eyes open Badge doing
the penmanship. Set your wayback machine to May 27, 2017....
Green Shirt Raynor responded to a Chris Bryant residence
on Valley View. Bryant came home and discovered things had been
disturbed there and missing. Missing were guns and a safe
containing deeds, paperwork, and an old railroad pocket watch.
Other items were missing from his garage.
Raynor took pictures and dusted for fingerprints and
noticed footprints and trampled grass leading to the garage and
to a nearby Hodge subject residence. Used blue latex
gloves were found on the path.
Raynor noticed a male subject leave the Hodge residence.
Our Green Shirt asked Hodge if he had seen anybody near Bryant's
house. Hodge replied, nope.
And then.. Raynor noticed a male subject leave out the
backdoor of Hodge's place, headed to the woods while
carrying a bag on his shoulder.
Heading back to the Hodge house, Raynor spoke to Ms
Hodge, she responded, there were s lot of people there last
night but couldn't name them
Still doing his gum shoe duties, Raynor went to the next
residence where he struck pay dirt. There, Raynor was told the
subject walking into the woods where a cabin was located
near the ridgeline.
Not giving p, Raynor drove up to the top of the ridge
where he spotted Ms Hodge again. There, she stated, her daughter
was dating Hamrick and that he was at her residence the night
before. Up at the top of Valley View Drive, Raynor parked his
Badgemobile walked out the ridge several hundred yards. There
was Eric Hamrick who said he was scouting for ginseng. Hamrick
gave the Green Shirt the A OK to search the bag which contained
several blue gloves, three pocket watches including an old
looking watch. Hamrick admitted to being at the the Hodge home
but did not break in..
Later that day, Mr Bryant called Raynor and
reported, some of the guns had been returned.
On May 30th he stated, the three guns had been returned
to him after posting a reward on Facebook. Bryant stated
that a Hall subject brought three of the five stolen weapons to
him
Still on the hunt for justice, Raynor showed Bryant a
photo of the watches found in Hamrick's bag. BINGO! Mr Bryant
identified the old looking watch as one his Grandfather
had given him.
With diligence glowing, Raynor talked with the Hall
subject who said, he felt Eric Hamrick had stolen the property.
Hall did not show up for an interview and hasn't been seen
since.
So much for the cold case? Wrong O!
Three years later Justin Eric Hamrick was spotted on a
road and was picked up. He is now charged with burglary and
looking at up to 15 years in the big house.
Darn good Badge work finally paid off!
