CABOOSI ON THE MOVE
July 10 2021
Many many
moons ago, the BC&G RR Co-Op Prez Roger Nutter drug into
Dundon a couple engines plus a couple steel caboosi.
After the death of Mr Nutter and as the Co-Op was fizzling
out, all the never used rolling stock remaining, AKA two
caboosi, went up for auction. Dave Pierson purchased one while
the CAEZ got in a peeing contest with the Co-Op claiming
ownership. Somehow, someway, CAEZ ended up owning both
rusting hulks of yesterday.
With reconstruction of the old BC&G RR track
beginning July 12th, an ultimatum was given the CAEZ, move the
old caucuses off the railroad tracks and do so before the
12th.
A little after 7am on the 10th, Pierson Lumber
Company crews were on site and ready for the lift. The first
caboose move took around 3 hours. Caboose 2 was done in around
1 hour.
No accidents. No injuries. And, with the rascals off
the rails, the FEMA paid for rebuild project can get under way
ahead of schedule.
At one point, CAEZ made plans to turn the units
into rental cabins at their campground. With their finances
very feeble, not sure what will become of the caboosi.

Holding everything together, there are two of these pins which
connect the carriages to the body.

The trouble was lining up the pin

Just above the near wheel, you can see the pin in place

For safety, the wheels were welded in place. Never know when
some pesky kid would try and move the hulks

20 minutes after 11, it was time to head home
