County Commission at Work
July 8th

Here's a couple notes from the July 8th Clay County Commission meeting. For the first time ever, and due to state orders to wear face masks, they did as well as those in attendance in the peanut gallery.
During the last CCC meeting in June, the elected body spent nearly 2 hours in secret time with the 911 Director and Asst Director. Afterwards, the CCC announced, Nope, no decisions were made.
Something did happen right after that secret time / meeting. Within minutes of adjourning, Asst 911 Director Tasha Wray turned in her resignation. No notice, just out the door she went. Our guess is, whatever did or didn't happen during that previous secret time, Ms Wray didn't agree and skedaddled public employment.

Ambulance Service Manager Bev King was on hand to discuss the bidding process for a new ambulance (maybe two). Turns out, those thangs ain't cheap. A "box" ambulance is coming in at around $88K and that doesn't include any of the interior equipment, radios, paint stripes, cot, etc.
Ms King was on hand to discuss a couple possibilities. From one supplier, according to King, a deal could be had by purchasing a box ambulance and van style unit at the same time. The Deal: one box , one van for $149 K or 2 ambulance vans for just $136K.  Keeping in mind, either or both are new units but are 2019 model years. Also, they are 2 wheel drive editions.
No real decision made but it sounded like the sway is toward purchasing 2 van ambulances
Before the meeting, the Top Badge was talking to the elected folks about a new cruiser. Grant dollars will be used to pay for much of the purchases.
With the start of the new fiscal year, CCC OK'd the hiring of Tyler Caruthers as a full time Black Shirt. Additionally, retired Badge Robert Belt was re-hired for part time duty. Both will be paid at $14 per hour and both have been on the job since July 1st..
Here's an issue for you to think about.
County employees take vacations like everybody else. They may also be required as part of their job duties. What do you do with em when they come back from Myrtle Beach or some other Corony hot spot? Do you quarantine them for 14 days? Do you pay em during quarantine?  Before coming back into the Courthouse, do they have to be tested, temperatures checked?
That topic should show up on the next County Commission agenda.

After the meeting, a 2001 GMC ambulance was to be auctioned off. With the minimum bid at $2K, there were no bidders.
