County Clay's Health Dept Board of
Directors convened for their quarterly meeting on Aug 3rd
at 4pm in the NH Dyer building on Main Street. Boardsters
Ted Underwood, Joyce McLaughlin, Amanda Shelton, and Beth
Hubbard were on hand for the assembly plus Dr Leela Patel
and Director Angela Brown.
While there's not been many "vaping" complaints,
this appointed body went ahead and voted in a new vaping
law. The govt intrusion now mandates, no such device can
be used indoors in this county. It was a unanimous vote.
Director Brown thought the law would be like when they
banned smoking in the county.
In the way of point of order, as soon as the
Health Bd voted in the smoking ban, Clay Town Council ,
under the direction of Mayor Arthur Jarrett, made their
own law which states, business owners can decide if their
establishment will be a smoking or non smoking, operation.
FYI: That ordinance is still on the books.
Behind the scenes, the Health Dept is trying to
gain some of the Federal $$$ for front line Corony workers
like the Director and office receptionist. So far no luck.
As for them being voted one time bonuses for their
efforts, that ain't allowed for any govt worker. The
new angle will be for the Federal $$$ to come thru the County
Commission in the form of a one time pay increase.

The pressing topic is of course the Corona
pandemic. Brown gave the most current update: 17 cases, 2
active, 14 recovered and 1 death. Although not required by
CDC mandates, as soon as a likely tester comes in and
before their test results are known, the Health Dept is
contacting those close to the victim, and making them
aware of the needed precautions. Lab Corp is providing the
test results.
Wouldn't you think, during a pandemic, the School
System would be in close contact with the County Medical
Officer and the Health Dept? Makes sense but the answer is
nope.
Instead and according to Ms Brown, the Pentagon had
their return to school plan together before she got
involved. Their plan was completed before she was invited.
She did tell her Board, that she is now invited to the
weekly Pentagon meetings on reopening schools.
Discussion turned to the different attitudes on
wearing face masks. Brown, " It's so political".
Boardster Beth Hubbard: It's so polarizing...
People are closed to discussion.... They ask, Are you
trying to control me????
Questions came: Why are the schools planning on
doing testing at schools instead of before the rug rats
get on the bus? And, how do you handle the small fries who
want drinks from wawa fountains every 10 minutes?
The Health Dept is hoping to hire a part timer to
handle all the grant $$ paperwork.
Next meeting will be held on Nov 2nd at 4pm. It's a
public meeting
