this county pay attention to any sport other than football
with basketball coming in a distant second. But. There's
always a but...
Last Saturday, Sept 9th, 2023, Clay County High School hosted a cross country meet over around Dundon, Lilly. With teams from 24+ counties participating, hands down, it was the largest one day event in Clayberry for many years.
Nearly 300 participants from regional middle and high schools entered the contests. Keep in mind, with each kid came parents, grand parents, brothers and sisters. It was huge.
Handling such a crowd is a challenge. For this Buffalo Creek Invitational, we heard no complaints from anyone. Well, maybe from Moms who complained their brat got his or her shoes all muddy during the creek crossing part of the 3.2 mile long course. Even the rainy stuff held off until until the last race was completed.
The Buffalo Invitational was a rousing success and one that put County Clay on the map in a good way.
